The cat in the tree

Asterix is such a trusting cat.

He climbs trees all the time and sometimes, when he’s feeling especially lazy, he’ll see us and meow for us to catch him. He’ll make his way partway down the tree then let go, because he just knows I’ll catch him.

I love that about him.

Speaking of animals in trees…as we pulled into our driveway last night, Lynden and I saw this owl in one of our trees (a brown owl maybe?). It was so cool to see him just perched there. His head was doing the whole owl thing; shifting side to side.

13Jan_23_12853-EditI’ve decided that if Lynden was an animal, he’d be an owl. Either that, or a bear.

Happy Thursday!

Jake is Lee and Rhianna’s foster dog. I recently wrote a post about them here.

Unfortunately, because Lee and Rhianna are moving for work soon and won’t be able to take Jake with them, he will have to find a new foster home or a good family to adopt him.

I hope they’re able to find someone soon because this little guy is so fun and deserves a happy, healthy home.

This picture makes me laugh every time I stumble across it…he’s giving me the crazy eye.

I loved that when he fell asleep he couldn’t keep his tongue in his mouth. I wish I could sleep like that :P

All the best finding him a new home Lee and Rhianna.

Remember July?

Do any of you remember July? You know, that month before August.

Well I’m finally editing pictures from July so here are a few that have caught my eye. I was obviously feeling very black and white today.

These were taken on the day I wrote this post while we were getting things organised for Aveline’s engagement party.

Here is Elizabeth’s cat Nismo napping on the pom-poms we were making.

Elizabeth also recently got a new little kitten to add to her brood. Little Shadow is super cute!

It’s nice reminiscing about July xx

Confession #5

But don’t give me the kind that come in a jar or I’ll be really sad.

Apparently, as a two year old, my mum used to find me sitting with my head in the fridge and an artichoke in my hand. Yum! I think that’s where my love for artichokes stems from.

I have been craving these little beauties for months – to the point where I eventually asked Lynden to make a last minute dash to the supermarket to check whether they had any. He ended up driving around to two or three places before giving up (sadly he didn’t find any) but I love that he tried.

Then, miraculously, we were at Woolworths grabbing some salad items when Lynden looks at me with an expression of undeniable glee. “Haides, LOOK!”

To say I was excited would be an understatement; I went into crazy lady mode and rushed to the nearest veggie bag dispenser where I stuffed three of the biggest artichokes I could find into it, whispering excitedly to Lynden,”I know this is going to sound rude but these are all for me, I don’t think I can share them”. Then, once we reached the counter, the checkout girl had to ask me what they were – I died a little inside. Poor girl, she’s missing out. After a small issue where they couldn’t find the artichokes in their system, we were eventually on our way home with my precious cargo.

Let me tell you, I devoured two artichokes that night and I had the other one last night. I bought four more today. Yes, I’ve already eaten two of those :)

I hope there are other artichoke lovers out there. Remember, the only way to eat these babies is to boil them until they’re soft (with their stems on) then eat each leaf of the flower individually dipped in a mixture of lemon, oil and salt.

Happy Monday!!

Confession #4

I used to really dislike cats!

Until my parents adopted Lana as a kitten.

She was just so adorable and had the tiniest little meow. Most people think she’s really antisocial but she’s just really shy. My parents found her after they noticed little meowing sounds coming from their garden – she had been hiding there for a few days and she was just a tiny little kitten :( My mum went door-knocking around the neighbourhood hoping to find her owner but nobody knew where she came from. Since then, Lana has been the family cat that likes to hide when company is over. She seems to be traumatised from her early days as an orphan. Sometimes she’s even scared to go outside, but she’s getting better with age and experience.

Then, Asterix convinced Lynden and I that cats are truly amazing creatures even though we both have a preference for dogs. He’s just so full of personality and love. I love his warm snuggles.

We love that kid.
