Fashion Friday

As I mentioned yesterday this past week has been really busy and I noticed that this week, every time I’ve left the house and come back, the first thing I’ve done is get myself back into my pyjamas. There’s something about comfy pyjamas that make everything feel a lot more calm.

So this week’s Fashion Friday is a celebration of comfy pyjamas.

Happy Friday!

Slipping + Daydreaming

I’ve been slipping a bit when it comes to keeping up with my blog posts the last couple of weeks…sorry. Busy has seriously become my middle name. I have an assignment worth 40 percent due on Friday and another worth 40 percent due on Monday. On top of that I have a lot of commitments that I’ve had to keep on top of and this weekend is going to be really hectic. So…I’ve been trying to work on getting both these assignments finished before the weekend since I don’t work on Saturday’s (I’m a Seventh-Day Adventist) and my Sunday looks like this: engagement party in the morning, birthday party in the afternoon, and a band practice I can’t miss in the evening. Then I also need to prepare for my Monday class since I’ve slacked off on handing in a couple of 2 percent peices the last couple of weeks and I don’t want it to keep adding up. Eventually I hope to get some sleep and possibly find a chance to see my visiting family members and spend time with Lynden. Phew. I’ll get there, I just need to pump it out.

With all the craziness going on, my daydreams have been filled with this:

And this:

And views like this:

Sigh. These are images I keep on my computer as inspiration but unfortunately I downloaded them a few years ago before I even thought I’d ever need to know who the source was. If anyone knows the sources of these images please let me know. For now I’m just going to continue daydreaming and enjoying the busyness because it means I’m learning, growing, and working towards my goals.

What do you daydream about when everything seems a little hectic?

Big Dreams

Lynden and I are both very passionate about home design. We can spend hours dreaming up our future home and the houses we want to build one day. Of course this makes a lot of sense for Lynden since he works in construction, but it’s something that we both love to imagine together.

Did I ever mention that I did a semester of interior design a couple of years ago. I absolutely loved it, but I quickly realised that it was a passion and hobby rather than the career choice I wanted to make. Now, if you walked into our house right now, you’d probably laugh at how undesignery it is. We are currently renting and often times that’s our excuse for not making our house feel more like a home. We haven’t personalised anything and are happy for the place we’re at now to just be a place we live in temporarily, that doesn’t really reflect us.

But eventually, oh eventually we won’t be able to be stopped! We have big dreams and I love that about us. I love that we dream about the homes we’ll build; the homes we’ll design together that incorporate new cutting-edge building techniques and styles for Lynden, and functional layouts and long-term sustainable building techniques for me. I love dreaming about  how our family will  use the spaces we designed together and how we’ll retire in a home we dreamt-up. I love that we dream big.

So now that you know we’re dreamers…what do you think of this lovely room below?

I don’t think I could ever survive actually living in a space with such high ceilings (I’d feel too small) but you have to admit, there is something very impressive about the scale of the whole space. On top of this, colonial windows (the ones made up of lots of smaller panes) are recurrently my favourite window style.

What do your big dreams look like?

Fashion Friday

Today is a look at the low back.

How low would you go?

Happy Friday :)

Edit: (oops I forgot to remind you to click on the images to follow the links! Most of them go back to pinterest again, so sorry – I find it harder to get the original source for fashion/style images compared to technology or food images. Why is that?)

I want to find this print

Does anyone out there know where I can find the source of this image? I think it is so beautiful and I am considering having it on a wall one day…but I don’t know where it originated :(

Edit: I found the creator of this print! It is a photograph by Morten Koldby Photography.

Apricots are my mum’s all time favourite fruit. She goes so far as to purchase apricot nectar as a refreshment to enjoy with her meals. Now, this may not seem overly strange to you, but before I say anything else there is something you need to know about me: I am an extremely fussy eater. You may have already picked up on that after reading this post about cake. However, above all else, there are two things in this world that make me literally throw-up – apricots and potato salads. I’m not meaning that I hate them so much that I metaphorically feel like throwing up, I mean they actually stir a physical reaction in me causing me to run to the nearest bathroom. I’m grimacing just thinking about it. Shudder.

Don’t they look so innocent here:

So, I’ve come up with a theory as to why I hate apricots. I’ve decided that when my mum was pregnant with me she must have overdosed on her favourite fruit to the point where it caused her unborn child (me) some sort of apricot blood poisoning! I see no other explainable reason as to why my mother’s favourite fruit (she seriously LOVES apricots) could possibly be detested so much by my body. Do you like my theory?

So, moving on, last year as we were preparing to celebrate my mum’s birthday, I volunteered to make the cake. At that time I had just recently acquired the perfect apricot cake recipe (I’m obviously assuming it was perfect based on what others have said since I hate both cakes and apricots!), and since I am the perfect daughter (hahahaha, just kidding, that would be Nicole’s domain) I decided to suck-it-up and make the apricot cake. I made a double batch of a cake that required me to physically chop up dried apricots (the worst form of apricot :P) into a kajillion tiny pieces. My hands smelt like apricot for hours…you can just imagine the gagging that ensued! To end my story, apparently the cake was a huge success and several people even asked for the recipe…unfortunately I’ve lost it ;)

Anyway, there really was no point to that story other than to tell you what an amazing daughter I am! Ha. And to tell you that I saw this image of an apricot sorbet and couldn’t help thinking how delicious it looked.

Yep, I think I’m going to have to suck-it-up again and make this delicious looking dessert for my mum. She would die.

Colour Calibrating my Screens

Sorry about my absence from the blog the last couple of days. I haven’t necessarily been really busy, I’m just trying to keep on top of everything and the blog has been the last thing on my mind.

This morning I spent a little bit of time trying to colour calibrate my screen on my laptop and the iMac but they’re still not matching up. One of the most annoying things is knowing that the way I’m seeing my images edited on one screen will be different to how they will be seen on another. In terms of my blog, I sometimes wonder how my images come across on the screen’s of the people viewing my images and I can only hope that it’s not all off.

I’ve been eyeing the Spyder 3 for a while, but it’s hard to justify the $200. It pretty much is a high-tech piece of equipment that does a really good job at calibrating your screen and syncing it with the settings on your printer as well. The images you see on the monitor should be the same as those you’re printing and the Spyder helps you calibrate that.

Since I don’t have the cash to spend on flashy equipment right now, does anyone have any other hardware or software recommendations, or techniques they use? At the moment I’ve just tried calibrating my screens using the colour calibration in my mac’s system preferences.

the siblings + me

Since I missed posting on Wednesday this past week, I thought I’d make up for it by sharing an extra post on this lovely Sunday. This is an iphone picture Lynden took of me with my my brother and sister a couple of weeks ago. I don’t have many pictures with all three of us together, so I forced them to pose for me :)

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Fashion Friday

I am absolutely loving bright colours right now. Unfortunately I’m a wimp and I’m not brave enough to wear anything too bright. Ugh. Maybe with a bit of time…or perhaps some pretty inspiration :)

How pretty are these bright pink lips!?

I think these pink lips would look amazing matched with this cobalt blue!

Would you be brave enough?

I want a bicycle

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday, I’ve been busy busy busy. Today is just a short post to tell the world…I really want a bicycle. Not just any bicycle though, I want a pretty vintage one, maybe even with a basket for my groceries. Sigh.

Have you ever noticed how ugly helmets are? It’s what’s been putting me off from getting a bike earlier, oh the woes of fashion, ha. But I do believe in safety first :)

Do you like the above bike from Italian company Spernicelli Morsenchio?
